The Text That Changed Everything
I never thought a single text message could change my life. But it did.
My girlfriend and I had been together for almost four years. We had our ups and downs like any couple, but lately, it felt like we were just coexisting. Conversations were short, date nights became rare, and affection felt like an obligation rather than something natural. I told myself that this was normal—that this was just what happens when you’ve been together for a long time.
Then one night, as I sat on the couch scrolling through my phone while she was in the other room, I got a text from her.
"Do you even love me anymore?"
My heart stopped. She was in the same apartment as me, just a few feet away, and yet she felt like she had to ask me that through a screen. That was the moment I realized how far we had drifted.
I didn’t reply with words. Instead, I walked into the bedroom and saw her sitting there, staring at her phone, waiting for my answer. I sat next to her and finally told her everything I had been bottling up—the stress, the fear, the love that never left but had been buried under routine and neglect.
We talked for hours that night. We cried. We laughed at how stupid we had been for letting things get so bad. And we made a promise—not to take each other for granted again.
That one text could have been the end of us. But instead, it saved us.
If you’re reading this and you feel like you’re drifting apart from someone you love, don’t wait for a text like that. Be the one to start the conversation. It might just change everything.
